How to Choose Your Hoodie Size: Measure a Hoodie You Already Own

Back view of the black WEARILO hoodie

Size letters are a starting point. A hoodie labelled medium can fit differently from another medium, so the most useful comparison is a garment that already fits the way you like. You need a flexible tape measure, a flat surface and a few minutes.

Measure your reference hoodie

Lay a clean, dry hoodie flat, smooth out obvious folds and leave the fabric relaxed. Avoid stretching it to reach a particular measurement. Use centimetres throughout so your notes match our size chart.

  1. Width: measure straight across the chest from armpit to armpit. This is the width of the garment laid flat, not a measurement around your body.
  2. Length: measure from the top shoulder to the bottom hem. Keep the tape straight rather than following folds in the fabric.
  3. Sleeve: our hoodie chart measures from the centre back of the neck to the cuff. A measurement taken only from the shoulder seam will not be directly comparable.

Write down all three measurements. If you already own a hoodie that is a little too short or too loose, note what you would change as well.

Compare with the exact product chart

The Wear Your Mood hoodie size guide lists garment measurements for S–5XL. For example, the listed medium is 56 cm wide and 71 cm long; the large is 61 cm wide and 74 cm long. The large therefore adds 5 cm of flat width and 3 cm of length. Those differences help you judge the shape more usefully than a size letter alone.

As an example, if a favourite hoodie measures 60 cm wide and 73 cm long, compare both the medium and large columns. The large is closer to those two measurements, but that comparison is a starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Check the sleeve measurement too.

Our current chart allows a manufacturing tolerance of ±3.81 cm for every size. Garments may vary within that range, so do not expect the printed chart to predict the exact measurement of every individual hoodie.

Choose the fit you want to wear

For a familiar fit, start with the chart closest to your reference hoodie. For more room, compare the next size in all three measurements. Sizing up changes the length and sleeves as well as the width; it is not the same as choosing a garment designed with a cropped, oversized cut.

Think about what will sit underneath it. Compare against a hoodie you already wear over similar layers, rather than trying to calculate extra room from a body measurement.

Before you order

  • Use the chart for the product you are buying, not a general size conversion.
  • Check width, length and sleeves together.
  • Remember that “unisex” describes the product’s fit category; it does not mean every person will want the same size.
  • Read the returns information before ordering.
